McKenzie has always loved the moon since she was tiny she would point up to the sky and say “mooon.” I knew when I decided to redesign her room that the main inspiration needed to be the moon. I asked her if she wanted to plan it out with me or if she wanted it to be a surprise. I was so excited when she said she wanted it to be a surprise! When designing a space I always start with choosing one thing that inspires me. For McKenzie’s room it was the Mrs. Mighetto Alice on the Moon print. I’m obsessed with everything Mrs. Mighetto but I really felt like this particular piece was absolutely perfect. I had to search high and low for it because it was sold out almost everywhere but eventually found it online at Junior Edition. After choosing the print for above her bed I decided on a color scheme of grey, white, pink and purple. Her favorite colors are pink and purple so I knew I had to incorporate her favs.
The bed I bought from Wayfair and I love it. The rose gold is gorgeous and it is great quality for the price. My next step was the bedding. I wanted it to be beautiful and comfy like she was sleeping on a cloud. Something I learned while designing her room was how to make her bed look like it was straight out of a catalog. The key is layering the sheets, duvet and a quilt. All of the bedding and bed skirt I bought from Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen. The cloud, moon and star pillows are from Etsy – Prostoconcept. The unicorn pillow is from Etsy – Isaidsokids. The round jute rug I put under one side of her bed I bought from Target. The one I have is sold out but I linked one that is similar. Her bed is like a dream. I am going to do a video soon on how to make a bed like they do in the catalogs!
Along with the Mrs. Mighetto print I put above her bed I hung a light up dream sign from Restoration Hardware and a woven piece from Wool and Wood. I love it because it’s unexpected and fun!
Her night stand I bought from the Project 62 collection at Target. Her nightlight is also from Target. The square print above her nightstand is from Sugarboo & Co it says My whole Heart for my Whole life. And the fun rose gold sequin fox head is from Etsy Maddox and Klaus. I love shopping small. Everything is so much more special when someone hand makes them with love.
The wall mirror was such a good Home Goods find. I’m obsessed. I actually wanted to keep it for our master bedroom! The bunny hook next to the mirror is from Anthropologie. The one I have is sold out but I linked one very similar. The dress hanging by the mirror is TutuDumonde. If McKenzie could wear Tutu Dumonde everyday she would. Her little stool next to her mirror I found at Home Goods. The ceiling pendant light in her bedroom is gorgeous. The inside is pos gold and the outside is a light matte lavender. I bought it from Pottery Barn Teen but unfortunately it is no longer available, I found this rose gold pendant light that Is beautiful too on Amazon.
Her desk is one of her favorite spots. She is in 1st grade now and really into writing. She has a spot she can go to be by herself to draw, write or to do her homework. She loves it! The desk is a white washed grey from the Project 62 collection at Target! I loved it so much I bought one for my office too! Her desk lamp and art canisters are from Pottery Barn Teen. The desk lamp is sold out so I linked a lamp very similar here. The Monkey print is from Minted. I hope she keeps this forever. Her nickname that my husband and I call her is Monkey Pants so I thought this would be a cute way for her to always remember she is our little monkey pants no matter how old she is. The Love you to the Moon tapestry hanging I found at Nordstrom. I bought it a long time ago so they no longer carry it. My absolute favorite item is her fuzzy chair from Pottery Barn Teen it’s a showstopper and so comfy! She can use this for years to come! The unicorn wall hanging is from Target I added one of McKenzie’s felt flower crowns from Flora and Peg. It looks like it was made for her!
For the wall across from her bed I kept it simple and symmetrical since the wall above her bed was not. I bought simple frames from Michaels and spray painted them rose gold. I printed three photos from our family photos last year and hung them above her dresser. Her clock and plant I bought from Target and the jewelry case is from Pottery Barn Kids. The crown sitting on her dresser is from Sugar Boo & Co. Her dresser I’ve had since she was a baby. It’s white and simple and it works. I’ve thought about changing the handles but I haven’t gotten to that yet.
Her reading nook is perfect for her age. I bought the canopy from Pottery Barn Kids. I tucked battery operated mini lights into the top of the canopy to give it a dreamy effect. The pillows I found at Home Goods and her books I put in a basket next to the canopy and cushion. The Moon hanging on the wall next to the reading nook is from Amazon, it is really cool! It has a remote and lights up to show the different phases of the moon. I think every child needs one of these in their room!
I know this is a lot of info but I’ve received so many requests for the products I bought for her room that I wanted to make sure I was as thorough as I could be. If you have any questions, I am happy to help! Send me an email at [email protected]
