For our end of the summer family trip we took the kids to Boston and Cape Cod. We had a great time exploring and going on daily adventures. It can be hard traveling with small kids. In hopes that it helps a little I am breaking down how we did the trip and the fun places we went to! Let me know if you have any questions!
We flew into Boston, rented a mini van and drove to Cape Cod. We stayed in Cape Cod for 3 nights at the Doubletree Hyannis. It was a great hotel in a great location.
We went to the Heritage Museum and Gardens and it was absolutely amazing! This is a definite must do with the kids. They have so much to do there for the children. The Carousel is inside and in pristine condition. Over 100 years old and hand carved. McKenzie went on it 8 times!
We decided to visit Martha’s Vineyard for a day. I’m so glad we did! We caught the Island Queen Ferry in Falmouth in the morning and stayed for the whole day. The ferry ride was so nice. We went to the Flying Horses carousel first thing! McKenzie has a thing for carousels so she was a happy camper this trip, they are everywhere. This carousel is the oldest in America and has rings you grab as you go around. So fun! After the carousel we walked to the gingerbread houses. This was Rusty and I’s favorite part. The most unique hand crafted homes all together in the most quaint neighborhood you have ever seen. For the rest of the day we rented a Jeep and cruised around the island. We went to the Lighthouse and took the girls on pony rides.
Off to Boston we go! We dropped the mini van off at the airport and headed to our hotel. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency near Boston Common. We started off our adventures on the Famous Duck Boat tour! This was so much fun and a great way to see the city. McKenzie got to drive the boat, she was so proud! What a great experience and a definite must do! And surprise there was another carousel near the duck boat. This carousel was so gorgeous, all different animals and they played the best music. To end the perfect day, a Cookie Monstah food truck was right next to the carousel. Ice cream cookie sandwiches for everyone!
Day two in Boston. Off to Boston Common Park and what do you know… there is another carousel there! Holy moly I’m dizzy from all of the spinning! The park is gorgeous, the girls ran and played. The swan boats are beautifully kept and such a peaceful ride around the lake. After the swan boats we followed the freedom trail to the North End. Rusty and I were proud to teach McKenzie a little history along the way. This should give us a free pass into the Parental Hall of Fame considering both of us hate history!
Day three in Boston was all about what daddy wanted. We went to Cheers and Fenway Park. They do an awesome Tour of Fenway Park every hour. We all enjoyed it. We also checked out the Bleacher Bar. It is located in the outfield in Fenway Park. So cool! It was a great opportunity to take the girls on their first subway ride too!
Day Four, our last day we went to The New England Aquarium. It’s the perfect place to take children. Big enough to spend a few hours in but small enough to easily manage with small kids. Then back to the North End to enjoy the best meal of the trip at the famous Neptunes Oyster Bar. This lived up to the hype for sure! The lobster roll is to die for and the crudo was mouth watering. Yum! The service was top notch too. Be prepared there is always a wait. The restaurant is tiny! For dessert we had to check out Mikes Pastry. The line was insane! The oreo cannoli was my favorite! Boston is a great city to take kids to. There is so much to do and you can walk to everything!
